OUR STORY
Since ancient times, Indian handlooms have always been the best in the world. They are elegant, rich, luxurious, and importantly, one-of-a-kind. Every region in the Indian subcontinent has something unique to offer and similar is the case in Maharashtra, India. What started as a thesis to study Paithani Silk, has turned into a mission to make Paithani a globally recognized silk.

We choose the name 'Mahavastra' because in the Marathi language it translates to "a grand/royal fabric." For a fabric to be grand it must be of the best quality, woven with precision, handled with the utmost care, and make the wearer feel royal & luxurious. Paithani falls under this perfectly. In 2015, with the mission to provide employment to Paithani handloom weavers, we started in a small apartment room and today we can proudly say, we have our own Paithani boutique.
PRESERVE, PROTECT AND PROMOTE paithani is our brand's motto since Day 1. With the introduction of the power loom, handloom weaver's are struggling to make ends meet, and this is why you get full transparency to our supply chain.
Paithani is a silk that has immense range- from sarees to lehengas to purses, paithnai can find a space in your wardrobe. We're excited to show you that paithani is more than just a Saree. Handloom weavers are facing numerous hurdles. We want to help preserve this art as well as provide weavers with a good quality lifestyle where they can practice their art and create beautiful pieces. The skill and technicality harnessed by these weavers deserve recognition. We work closely with the Maharashtra government to maintain the zero suicide rate amongst Paithani handloom weavers. Hence, when you buy one product from us it helps the weaver feed his/her family for at least a week.
